Snubnose revolvers are prolific in American cultural consciousness, but few people properly understand their practical capabilities. One of the most quintessential American guns is the “snubnose” revolver, a staple of our heritage since it started to spin. The need for a compact and reliable weapon has never abated, and, sure enough, the little revolver has been there for us for countless generations. Due to the general saturation of this type of gun in the media and as an ingrained staple of our cultural consciousness, it’s both significantly overrepresented and, at the same time, poorly understood. The Hollywood Effect on Snubnose CarryIn general, our focus here will be on the most commonly used chamberings inherent to the snubnose, the .38 Special and .357 Magnum. These rounds, while related and very closely intertwined, do behave like different animals in a small revolver, and the benefits largely depend on use.The .38 Special (left two cartridges) next to its slightly bigger but substantially more powerful brother, .357 Magnum. For our general purposes, we are limiting this discussion to the truly short barrels: the 2-inch class. While it might not seem like much, going longer starts to enter “big handgun” territory pretty fast, and even a 3-inch barrel…

A group of Republican lawmakers is pressing the Army to loosen longstanding restrictions on firearms at recreation sites run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, arguing the policy is out of step with other federal land agencies. Led by Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas), the lawmakers on April 17 sent an open letter to Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll urging the service to finalize a rule that would allow individuals to carry firearms for self-defense on Corps of Engineers-managed lands. According to the Corps’ website, the agency manages more than 400 lake and river projects across 43 states, as well as nearly 42,000 miles of shoreline, 7,825 miles of trails and almost 95,000 campsites. Collectively, these locations receive some 260 million visitors annually.Fallon described the Corps as an “outdated exception,” noting that agencies like the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management already permit firearms under certain conditions. As long as visitors comply with local and state gun laws, individuals are permitted to carry firearms for non-recreational purposes. “Public lands form a complicated patchwork of jurisdictions with invisible boundaries that Americans cross every day,” Fallon said in a statement. Fallon called the Corps’ current policies on guns “arbitrary federal…

The U.S. Air Force approved low-rate initial production of Boeing’s T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer, setting the stage for the long-awaited replacement of the service’s 60-year-old T-38 Talon. The April 23 decision authorizes a $219 million contract for the first 14 aircraft, along with spares, support equipment and training, the Air Force announced Monday. The service is targeting initial operational capability in 2027.The approval means the aircraft cleared Milestone C, a point in the defense acquisition process that marks the transition from development to manufacturing.“Reaching Milestone C is a testament to the dedicated government and industry teams who have worked diligently to overcome complex technical hurdles,” William Bailey, who’s performing the duties of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics, said in a statement. “The T-7A is a pivotal program for the future of our combat air forces.”For Air Education and Training Command, the urgency is generational.“Our mission is to train the next generation of combat aviators, and the T-7A Red Hawk is the tool we need to do it,” said Brig. Peacock will stream Cavaliers vs. Pistons at 7 p.m. SKIP BAYLESS TO REUNITE WITH STEPHEN A. SMITH ON ESPN AS FIRST TAKE’S RATINGS SLIPNBA fans are not pleased with the scheduling quirk. For years, doubleheaders on ESPN and TNT were staggered so the second game started when the first ended, or close to it.But overlap was the risk the NBA ran when it partnered with NBC this season. Since opening night, NBC has avoided airing games before 8 p.m. ET on weeknights. It also does not want Central Time teams like the Spurs and Thunder tipping off as late as 9:30 pm local time.Further, fans will not be pleased to learn they still need two streaming services — Peacock and Amazon — in addition to NBC, ESPN and ABC to watch the second round. It just keeps getting harder, more confusing and more expensive to…

The Qatari-donated 747-8i aircraft slated to become the interim Air Force One finished its modifications and flight testing ahead of launch by this summer.Boeing’s VC-25B Bridge aircraft is currently being painted in the red, white and blue livery that President Donald Trump initially sought after during his first term in 2018, according to a Friday Air Force release.Plans to replace the current Air Force One aging planes with two new VC-25B aircrafts have been in effect for about a decade, but a lack of properly cleared workers and supply chain issues caused the plans that were originally scheduled for a 2024 delivery to be delayed. Now, the aircrafts are expected to be delivered in 2028.“With the Boeing VC-25B deliveries delayed past its initial 2024 target and VC-25A heavy maintenance cycles extending, an interim capability became an absolute imperative,” the release says.Although Trump has voiced his dissatisfaction many times with Boeing’s delays, the defense company has expressed their determination to complete the transformation of 747-8 aircraft into VC-25Bs.In the meantime, Trump will use the luxury jet that was donated by Qatar in May 2025.The decision to use this aircraft raised national security concerns along with worries over the amount of time…
