We’ve covered several of what We Knife Co. calls its “Armed Forces-Inspired Collection” knives, and since they are still waiting to be released we have the time to take a look at another one of them today, the Gunwhale. Some quick catchup: We Knife Co. has been prepping a new, limited edition collection centered around a military theme. Each model has a production run in the low triple-digits, and while they are differentiated from one another in thousands of little and big ways, they do all share the same overarching martial aesthetic. While the whole set runs to more than ten different models, here at KnifeNews we singled out the the Hull and the Muster for individual articles – and today they will be joined in that dare we say singular honor by the Gunwhale. The camo scheme on this one is arctic-inspired As one would perhaps expect from the Armed Forces theme, no knife in this collection is small – but even amongst its sizable peers the Gunwhale lands on the larger side of the spectrum with a 3.87-inch blade. And a what a blade it is. Nominally a drop point, the massive fuller, compound grind, and chunky spine…

China’s Unitree Robotics — among the world’s biggest producers of humanoid and quadruped robots — based designs for its most successful robot dogs on innovations funded by the U.S. military, according to a former U.S. defense technology official and three top researchers involved in the project.Unitree’s $1,600 Go2 model, launched in 2023, helped the company rapidly dominate the global quadruped robot market — its Shanghai IPO has drawn frenzied demand. Another Unitree robot has been shown on Chinese state television, armed and accompanying People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops on an exercise. These robots draw on breakthroughs in quadruped movement financed by the U.S. DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL) and other military programs, the researchers and the former official told Reuters. The Army-funded project turned into, “basically, the first Unitree robot that had any kind of scale,” said Gavin Kenneally, a former University of Pennsylvania researcher involved in the program.Ben Katz, who worked at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Biomimetic Robotics Lab, among a consortium of universities financed by the military programs, said the dimensions of Unitree’s popular Go series were “to the millimeter” almost identical to a groundbreaking robot he helped develop called Mini Cheetah.Reuters is the first media outlet to detail…

The Profit Machine: The S&P’s True Margin King Listen up, because the mainstream financial media is feeding you garbage while the smart money is orchestrating the trade of the century. We are standing at the epicenter of a historic valuation dislocation. While the herd is chasing tech stocks at nosebleed valuations, gold mining equities are trading at their cheapest levels in over 50 years! Let that sink in. Gold has broken out into uncharted territory, yet the producers of the metal are priced as if we are in a multi-decade depression. This is the definition of a generational mispricing—and the spring is coiled so tight that when it snaps, the rerating will be violent, parabolic, and unforgiving to anyone left on the sidelines. Forget over-hyped software tickers burning cash to fake growth. Look at the raw, undeniable math: ·        Expanding Profit Margins: With gold surging and all-in sustaining costs (AISC) locked in between $1,300 and $1,400 an ounce, operating margins across premier producers have widened past 60%. ·        The Most Profitable Sector in the S&P 500: Gold miners are generating wider operating margins and higher free cash flow yields than tech, energy, healthcare, or consumer staples. ·        Fortress Balance Sheets: For the first…

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) concluded its Lift Challenge last week, and although none of the participants achieved the desired goal of building a drone capable of lifting four times its weight, they came close. The agency announced that the company AVIDrone pushed the limits with its electric helicopter design that lifted an unprecedented payload-to-weight ratio of 3.84 to 1.In practical terms, that means the company’s Katana heavy-lift drone, weighing 29.3 pounds, lifted and carried a payload weight of 112.4 pounds across approximately five nautical miles. AVIDrone, a Canadian company with U.S. headquarters in Maryland, specializes in cargo delivery drones for the defense and commercial sectors. In a statement, the company called its first-place performance the “result of bringing together years of know-how, our proprietary autopilot and flight-control technologies, and decades of experience designing and flying aircraft specifically for heavy cargo lift.” With the DARPA Lift Challenge, the agency aimed to advance vertical lift in a small unmanned aerial system. Calling it the “heavy-lift bottleneck,” multirotor drones typically can only carry payloads equal to or less than their own weight. Phillip “Donna” Smith, the Lift Challenge program manager, described heavy vertical flight as the “next great technological inflection…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! The numbers for the elementary school down the block from my church are discouraging. The latest CPS data for Dulles Elementary School show that just 13.7% of Dulles students are proficient in English language arts and 3.9% are proficient in math. Dulles spends significantly less per student than some districtwide estimates of CPS spending. This is shocking, mind-boggling, and if this isn’t a crime against humanity, then I don’t know what is.The numbers only get worse. The school spends about $16,200 per student. The Chicago Public Schools district average is roughly $27,000 to $32,000 per student. How is this inequity possible in this age of DEI?We live in one of the bluest cities in America, and our mayor, Brandon Johnson, brags about having the “Blackest administration” and always talks about fighting White supremacy. And yet he is comfortable with this disparity in school spending? Why aren’t all the White DEI folks on the North Side of Chicago outraged over this inequity?CHICAGO’S EMPTY ‘GHOST SCHOOLS’ TEACH US ABOUT HOW THE SYSTEM IS FAILINGOn top of this, Chicago Public Schools is staring down a roughly $732 million budget deficit. Just last summer, the district…
