When the American Expeditionary Forces joined the Allied armies on the Western Front in World War I, there was one condition upon which their commander, Gen. John Pershing, insisted. He wanted the AEF to fight as an army, not a collection of separated units scattered among the Allied armies. For the most part, he got his way by the time the United States’ First Army was launched against the Germans at Saint-Mihiel in September 1918. There were, nevertheless, a handful of American divisions that were “loaned” among the French, the British and the Australians, leaving their partners a general impression of naïve green soldiers capable of learning fast. Among those fast learners was Sgt. Reidar Waaler of Company A, 105th Machine-Gun Battalion, 27th Division, who entered the fray at Le Hamel on July 4, 1918.Waaler’s peripatetic life story began on Feb. 12, 1894, with his birth in the Norwegian suburb of Oslo. A few years later, his family moved to resettle in New York City. Waaler had enlisted in the 27th Division, a New York National Guard unit, and had risen in rank to sergeant by the time his activated division was shipped overseas. At Le Hamel the 27th and…

Want to get better at handling the hard hitters? Here are six ways to reduce felt recoil from the bench. When we shoot from a bench rest, we’re usually sighting in a rifle or testing ammunition. When doing either, it’s important to get the best shot to shot results we can. The problem is that sustained recoil can negatively impact not only your shooting but also your enjoyment. There are some ways you can mitigate felt recoil when shooting from a bench rest, and these techniques become very important when you crawl behind a hard-kicking rifle. The general consensus among firearms trainers is that most experienced adult shooters can withstand about 20 shots from a bench rest with a .30-06 Springfield rifle without experiencing excessive discomfort or a negative impact on accuracy and precision. The amount of free recoil energy the average .30-06 rifle with a scope will generate is right at about 20 foot-pounds. Of course, some rifles recoil much harder. A .338 Winchester Magnum can generate almost twice as much free recoil energy. But it’s not always about free recoil energy.Due to the configuration of some rifles and their lack of a soft butt pad, even lighter recoiling rifles can be…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Former daytime talk show host Maury Povich laughed at former MSNBC host Joy Reid’s suggestion Monday that Senate Democrats “play by the rules” and don’t “play politics” like Republicans. On the “On Par with Maury Povich” podcast, Povich remarked that if the Democratic Party were to regain control of the Senate after the 2026 midterm elections, they would effectively stop any chance of President Donald Trump appointing another Supreme Court justice, similar to how Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., held up then-President Barack Obama from appointing a replacement after Justice Antonin Scalia’s death in 2016.Reid argued otherwise, insisting Democratic politicians were different from Republicans.DEMOCRATS TAKING THE SENATE? SERIOUSLY? DESPITE TRUMP’S SINKING POLLS, IT’S PROBABLY A MEDIA FANTASY “Democrats do not play politics the way Republicans do,” Reid said.”Oh come on, Joy, please,” Povich interrupted, snickering at the comment.”They do not. They do not. Democrats play by the Marquess de Queensberry rules. They’re not rule breakers,” Reid argued.”You’re trying to tell me if the Democrats take the Senate in 2027 and [Justice Samuel] Alito retires and Trump names a Supreme Court justice, that Democrats are going to have hearings and actually confirm him or her?”…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Every team in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) has its own unique celebrations for home runs, whether it’s a special jacket from the Dominican Republic or coordinated handshakes with Team USA. But Team Italy might have the best one of all – the players take an espresso shot, which is made from a machine that sits right in the dugout. It’s about as Italian as it gets.  The machine sits toward the end of the dugout, but players and coaches can get their quick caffeine fix. And it isn’t anything new from this group. During the 2023 WBC, there was a Nespresso machine in the dugout, and it worked out for the team. They made it out of their group stage for just the second time ever in the tournament. So, why not bring it back? First baseman Vinnie Pasquantino, who stars for the Kansas City Royals, seems to be the ring leader with the machine when a player goes yard, too. After making the player who hit the home run an espresso shot, he gives them a kiss on both cheeks – a traditional sign of affection by Italians. “In Italy, we drink coffee about 20 times…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! The Trump administration has turned Venezuela into a significant U.S. oil supplier, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Sunday, arguing the shift will help offset Middle East disruptions and ease pressure from the global shipping crisis.”[Venezuela] was a sanctioned adversary, and now they’re a strategic ally with the largest reserves with no threat of the chokehold like we have in the Strait of Hormuz,” Burgum told “The Sunday Briefing.””Venezuelan oil can flow to America freely and is starting to flow, will continue to flow, and these are the kinds of things that are going to bring gas prices down in America, because President Trump understands that energy security means national security and energy security also means affordability for Americans,” he said.  Burgum’s comments align with recent moves to expanding Venezuelan crude exports to the United States, with Venezuela’s state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. signing new contracts last week to supply crude oil and refined products to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries. The agreements are part of a broader effort to re-establish commercial ties and bring Venezuelan oil back into major U.S. supply chains.MIKE PENCE PRAISES TRUMP FOR ‘DECISIVE LEADERSHIP’ ON IRAN AFTER BIDEN…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! President Donald Trump said Sunday that Iran’s new leader is “not going to last long” without U.S. approval as Operation Epic Fury continues into its second week.”He’s going to have to get approval from us,” Trump told ABC News in an interview. “If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long. We want to make sure that we don’t have to go back every 10 years, when you don’t have a president like me that’s not going to do it.””I don’t want people to have to go back in five years and have to do the same thing again or worse let them have a nuclear weapon,” the president continued.Trump’s comments come after Iranian state media reported that a majority consensus had been reached on a new supreme leader following the Feb. 28 assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Mohammadmehdi Mirbaqeri, who serves on Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the clerical body tasked with selecting the supreme leader, did not offer any names but acknowledged to the Mehr News Agency that there are still “some obstacles.”ABC News reported that Trump said it’s possible he would be in favor of someone…

This article was originally published by Ryan McMaken at the Mises Institute.  Donald Trump today, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, stated that his goal for the current war with Iran is unconditional surrender. Specifically, he wrote: “There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” Moreover, Trump specified that the US will have final say on “the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s).” In stating all this, however, Trump is essentially announcing that the US will be at war for an extended period. Historians have long noted that demands for unconditional surrender have worked to prolong conflicts rather than shorten them, leading to needless death on both sides. After all, Trump is essentially saying that the Iranians should put themselves in a position of accepting whatever terms the United States seeks to unilaterally impose, including the total dissolution of the Iranian state, plus sanctions, punishments, occupations, and other humiliations. What government would accede to this? Very few would, which is why only very weak, small, and relatively unarmed regimes can be forced into accepting unconditional surrender after anything less than a protracted war. Iran, however, is not weak, small, or relatively unarmed. And geography…
