NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! As America marks its 250th anniversary next month, the nation finds itself in a moment of deep civic uncertainty. Americans sense that something essential is slipping away — a shared understanding of who we are and what we stand for.Our universities now debate whether equality is a universal truth or merely a product of its time. Public institutions hesitate to defend the natural‑rights philosophy that justified the American Revolution. Even the idea of a common national creed feels fragile.Yet amid this cultural confusion, one Supreme Court justice has spent more than three decades insisting that the Declaration of Independence still means exactly what it says — and that the country cannot survive without its moral framework.PROTECTING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN OUR 250TH YEARJustice Clarence Thomas, now the Court’s second‑longest‑serving member, has long argued that the Declaration is not ceremonial rhetoric. It is the republic’s foundational statement of political principle. That view may be unfashionable in elite institutions, but it is exactly how the Founders understood the document.Thomas Jefferson called the Declaration “an expression of the American mind.” Abraham Lincoln famously described it as the “apple of gold,” with the Constitution serving…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! By the media’s count, President Donald Trump had assured America 39 times that he was about to reach a peace deal with the Iranians. Networks were running montages of these similar-sounding assurances. And yet it never seemed to materialize. In between, Trump would threaten to hit Iran VERY HARD – to “bomb the s— out of them,” as he told Fox – only to pull back at the last moment. There were bombing attacks against the mullahs, who bombed U.S. targets in the region and shot down an Army helicopter, in a cycle of recrimination and retaliation that reduced the ceasefire to false advertising. Things seemed grim in the last few days when Trump called the Iranians “dishonorable,” saying they leaked a draft agreement that bore no resemblance to what the two sides were actually discussing.WHY TRUMP KEEPS FLIPPING ON IRAN: A PRESIDENT WHO SEES THE WORLD AS HE WANTS IT TO BE Was the president falling into the same trap? There he was this weekend, saying that the long-awaited peace agreement would be signed the next day, Sunday. Then, as if by clockwork, Iran knocked it down, saying there was no agreement. For most of…

The United States plans to significantly reduce the aircraft and warships it makes available for NATO operations in Europe, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing two senior European officials. The decision would limit NATO’s ability to launch long-range strikes and conduct surveillance, the report said. The U.S. plan includes cutting the number of F-16 and F-15E fighter jets from roughly 150 to 100, reducing maritime reconnaissance aircraft from 26 to 15, and removing all eight aerial refueling tanker jets it previously made available to Europe, the report said. The U.S. also aims to redeploy a missile-launching submarine and an aircraft carrier, along with several warships and scores of jets that join the carrier’s missions, the New York Times said, adding that one of two groups of bombers previously assigned for Europe’s defense may also be reallocated.“Historically there has been an over-reliance on U.S. forces and capabilities,” NATO spokesperson Allison Hart told Reuters, adding that as Europe and Canada invest more in defense and develop greater capabilities, the balance of responsibility can shift. This would strengthen NATO’s defense by reducing reliance on a single ally and reflect a broader change happening within the alliance, Hart said in an emailed statement. The U.S.…

This article was originally published by Jeremy E. Powell at The Mises Institute.  It needs no special introduction to argue that, after years of repeated lockdowns, restrictions, and vaccination pressures that violate both choice and conscience, the ongoing panic from global media and potentiality for lockdowns will undoubtedly land poorly in today’s polarized environment. It isn’t complicated to understand why. Those three years of lockdowns, restrictions, and vaccination pressures weren’t about abstract data or ideals. For many people, they represented isolation, business closures, loss of jobs and years, and a time where walking out of the house could have gotten you arrested and fined in some cases. It’s easy to talk about end goals when you’re the news anchor, media producer, “expert,” or politician, because you can afford to sit at home and work when much of the population can’t. In extreme cases, you get situations where those infected with the Coronavirus were forcibly quarantined with elderly people (see New York State under Andrew Cuomo’s lockdowns) that resulted in thousands of deaths, or China’s catastrophic “zero-Covid” policies that skyrocketed death rates. Or the simple fact that to “stimulate” the economy, every central bank dialed its printers to eleven, and now we’re living under the consequences…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Kennywood, a nearly 130-year-old amusement park outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is tightening its summer chaperon policy as parks around the country experience violent brawls and unruly teen crowds heading into the heart of the season. The popular Pennsylvania amusement venue said guests ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other supervising adult during all operating hours, effective June 12. NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Britain’s defense secretary resigned Thursday after accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government of failing to adequately fund the military despite rising threats from Russia and growing NATO demands, delivering a major political blow to the prime minister ahead of July’s alliance summit. In a sharply worded resignation letter, John Healey said the government had failed to commit the resources needed to execute Britain’s long-term defense strategy, arguing the country’s armed forces risk being left short of the money, personnel and industrial capacity needed to meet mounting security challenges.”This new era for defence required further investment through the Defence Investment Plan,” Healey wrote. “Since then, you have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats.”While European governments have pledged major increases in defense spending and warned that Russia poses a long-term threat to the alliance, many continue to struggle with the political and fiscal realities of rebuilding armed forces after decades of post-Cold War cuts. The debate has taken on added urgency as Trump pushes European nations to assume a greater share of responsibility for their…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! If you want to understand why businesses are leaving California, investors are looking elsewhere and common-sense economics seems to have disappeared from public policy, look no further than Los Angeles. In a move that should surprise absolutely no one familiar with California politics, Los Angeles leaders approved a plan to push hotel and airport worker wages to $30 per hour. Supporters call it the “Olympic Wage,” arguing that workers should benefit from the economic activity generated by the 2028 Summer Olympics. While that may sound compassionate, it reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how businesses operate and how capitalism works in America. The problem isn’t that politicians want workers to earn more money. Everyone wants workers to earn more money. People need a decent living wage. The problem is that Los Angeles continues to believe it can create wealth by passing laws instead of creating conditions that allow businesses to thrive.LA HOTELS HIT BY LARGEST JOB LOSSES IN A DECADE AS ‘OLYMPIC WAGE’ MANDATES BITE, DATA SHOWSThat’s not economics.
