Tuesday was just a 1-1 day, nothing special, but also not a complete disaster. One of the things I love most about baseball is that we get to bet on it daily. The current Ebola outbreak is worsening, alarming most health officials. The outbreak of the Bundibugyo virus has caused rulers to impose travel restrictions and emergency responses as suspected cases continue to grow. The outbreak has revived international concern not only because of Ebola’s deadly reputation, but also because of other situations that are making it difficult to track and contain.  The involvement of the rare Bundibugyo strain is the primary cause for concern, although violence and displacement are also playing a role in the spread. According to a report by Forbes, frontline health workers are said to be “risking everything” in an attempt to contain this “catastrophic” Ebola outbreak. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 900 suspected Ebola cases have now been registered across the DR Congo, including 101 laboratory-confirmed infections. In neighboring Uganda, health authorities have confirmed five cases and one death linked to the virus. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said response efforts are being hampered by delays in identifying cases, warning that health authorities are effectively being forced to “play catch-up” as the outbreak expands, according to a report by RT. The U.S. Army has received its first batch of new, lighter Javelin launchers, defense contractor RTX announced in a statement Tuesday, the most recent development for the guided missile system credited with helping Ukraine stave off Russia’s initial invasion. The Lightweight Command Launch Unit, LWCLU, will replace the older, heavier command units and offer improved target detection range, the company said in a statement, adding that it is ramping up yearly production.The weapon system, which can be fired from the shoulder or from a vehicle, allows soldiers to fire Javelin munitions through a launching tube. RTX, formerly known as Raytheon, created the new version in collaboration with Lockheed Martin. The updated launch unit is 30% smaller and weighs 25% less than those currently in use, RTX said. It can be used during the day or night and will have “twice the target detection and recognition range.” The United States has used Javelins in Iraq and Afghanistan.
