The Coast Guard’s medium icebreaker Healy was towed to Port Angeles, Washington, earlier this month as a result of a “significant engineering casualty,” according to a release.The Cutter Healy, which recently completed drydock repairs at the Swan Island shipyard in Portland, Oregon, lost propulsion during sea trials off the Washington coast July 13 and was towed to port without incident. Coast Guard officials said no personnel were injured in the mishap.The 420-foot ship underwent a $18.3 million overhaul earlier this year that included restoring propulsion components such as shafts, bearings, seals, rudders and its bow thruster. Vigor Marine LLC also upgraded the ship’s sonar system and infrastructure, according to a company release.An investigation into the incident is underway, and the Healy is expected to need “major repairs,” the Coast Guard says.The Coast Guard did not provide information regarding the extent of the damage or an estimated time for repairs.“[The Coast Guard] will provide additional information regarding the casualty aboard CGC Healy as it becomes available,” the service told Military Times on Wednesday.Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Military families relocating to four more areas can receive a $125 grocery stipend to redeem for food, beverages and baby essentials, according to the nonprofit Military Family Advisory Network.New programs have launched at Naval Station Norfolk and the Hampton Roads area in Virginia, as well as at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Programs launch within the next few weeks at installations in the San Diego, California, area and around Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. The Pentagon has formally launched the Europe force posture review Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last month, beginning a process to examine U.S. military troop presence, force posture and basing across Europe.Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby announced on X Tuesday that the Defense Department had “kicked off” the review Hegseth unveiled during the NATO defense ministerial in Brussels on June 18.
