Russia has begun implementing border controls and other measures to keep hantavirus at bay. These precautions aim to prevent the potential spread of the deadly Andes hantavirus strain, the country’s public health watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, has said. As a precaution, “Rospotrebnadzor – together with the Russian Border Service – has taken measures to strengthen border controls,” it said. Automated information systems are being used at the border to assess and minimize risks, it added, according to a report by RT. This current outbreak was discussed during a Rospotrebnadzor video conference on Tuesday, where the discussion centered on preventative measures. Hantaviruses are a long- and well-studied group of natural infections, the agency said in a follow-up statement on Wednesday, adding that no outbreaks have been recorded in Russia this year. The rare strain of the virus – typically spread through contact with infected rodent droppings, urine, or saliva – has been linked to at least three deaths connected to a Dutch-flagged cruise ship since April 11. A total of 11 infection cases, including the deaths, have been confirmed among the ship’s 147 passengers. –RT The Andes strain, which is the one currently causing the outbreak, is predominantly found in the New World…

The U.S. Navy’s fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be delivered two years late because of limited construction space at the shipyard where it’s being built, according to the Navy. The service’s fiscal 2027 shipbuilding budget estimate, which was released in April, shows that USS Doris Miller’s arrival was bumped from February 2032 to February 2034 due to “constraints” at Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding shipyard in Virginia. That delay, however, is a result of issues with the construction of the third Ford-class carrier, the CVN-80, or USS Enterprise.“The primary schedule driver for CVN-81 is the lack of available shipyard construction space for large assemblies due to delays on CVN-80,” a Navy official told Military Times. The USS Enterprise is occupying the shipyard’s final assembly area, where large assemblies are required to take place. It is the only space accessible by a heavy-lift crane, which is needed for construction, the official said.“The CVN-80 delivery date shifted from July 2030 to March 2031 due to delay in critical path construction required for launch of the ship,” according to the Navy’s budget estimate.Equipment that the Enterprise needs for construction didn’t arrive on time, the Navy official said.A representative from Newport News Shipbuilding…

Bullets with a fast velocity or a high BC are good, but those with both are even better.Since the introduction of the 6.5 Creedmoor, shooters and hunters have become infatuated with bullets that have a high ballistic coefficient (BC). This is understandable because, given the same velocity, the bullet with a higher BC will fly flatter and resist the wind better. Of course, for you to shoot a bullet with an extremely high BC you must have a rifling twist rate capable of stabilizing that bullet at the muzzle velocity you’ll be launching it at. This creates somewhat of a conundrum for shooters, because many older rifles/cartridges do not have rifling twist rates capable of stabilizing modern high BC bullets. The 6.5 Creedmoor rifle cartridge started the high BC bullet craze. The High BC AdvantageTo get an idea of the advantages offered by bullets with high BCs, let’s look at a comparison between a Sierra Pro-Hunter 180-grain round-nose bullet and a 180-grain Sierra Tipped GameKing bullet in 0.30-caliber. The round-nose Pro-Hunter bullet has a G1 BC of 0.240 and the Tipped GameKing bullet has a G1 BC of 0.543. Using Hodgdon’s online load data resource, we can see that from a .308…

There’s no time like the present to take a critical look at the Craft Holsters Lynx IWB holster, which I tested with my Springfield Hellcat. But first, a little background info. Craft Holsters was formed in 2009 with a vision of offering holsters that are more than just interchangeable pieces of gear. If made with true craftsmanship, they could instead become vital parts of a user’s “daily mission,” whether that be honing one’s shooting ability or standing ready to protect family and community. An insert with my test holster announced “The end of holster drawers,” which is a goal I think most of us can get behind. The Craft Holsters Lynx leather holster for the Hellcat is a classic-style holster that makes for a great companion to this micro-sized 9mm. My Lynx holster was made in Italy from real leather and German thread. The company boasts that each of its holsters is entirely handmade, both in terms of the mold and dye processes. As a result, its product line is designed to give users a holster that feels truly custom, both in terms of premium materials and with respect to the quality of fitment to the pistol. First Impressions The…
