The NFL could be dishing out a suspension to Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen after he was charged this week with two misdemeanors stemming from his arrest on charges of drunk driving before the start of the season.
Allen is facing preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OVWI) as well as OVWI endangering a person, which are both misdemeanors in Indiana.
However, Allen had a blood alcohol level of .224 when he was arrested, which is almost triple the legal limit of .08, per Yahoo Sports. The high BAC is a higher Class A misdemeanor in Indiana.

Allen’s arrest violates the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, and a minimum three-game suspension follows the violation per the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. If the player is more intoxicated, a longer suspension could be in play.
It was reported the NFL would be waiting on Allen’s legal proceedings before issuing a suspension.

With an attorney conference expected on Oct. 26, Allen’s suspension could be coming mid-season for Indianapolis.
As a result, Allen is available to play for the Colts in their Week 2 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on “Sunday Night Football.”
The 34-year-old receiver also played last week, hauling in six of Daniel Jones’ passes for 32 yards in the 41-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Allen is in his 14th NFL season, his first with the Colts after signing a one-year deal with the team this off-season. His stardom came with the Los Angeles Chargers, whom he spent 12 seasons with, including a reunion this past year.

Allen caught 81 passes in his Chargers return last season for 77 yards and four touchdowns. The year prior, Allen was away from the West Coast for the first time, playing with the Chicago Bears during the 2024 campaign.
