NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! There is a tradition in Texas of people named Crockett making famous last stands. For Davey Crockett, it was at the Alamo, but the hill that Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, seems inclined to die on is stopping James Talarico, who beat her in the primary, from winning his Senate race. The famously sassy Crockett told the Dallas Morning News this week that she has “no idea” when asked if she would support Talarico in November, saying she is focused on the down-ballot races.Crockett also declined an invitation to speak on Talarico’s behalf at the upcoming Texas Democratic Party Convention. In fact, she is just skipping the whole thing. On one hand, this refusal to play ball could just be the ire of a woman scorned, but even if that is so, there are a few reasons for Democrats to be worried about Crockett taking her endorsement and going home.RISING STAR TALARICO TOPPLES PROGRESSIVE FIREBRAND CROCKETT IN HIGH-STAKES TEXAS SENATE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARYThe first reason why Crockett’s refusal to endorse Talarico would hurt is that it takes away an important political weapon, specifically, the fact that long-serving GOP Sen. NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time,” had a message for Democrats looking to spoil the upcoming America 250 celebration over their distaste for President Donald Trump: Don’t be so petty. Referring to the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which featured many American flags, he argued, “You can’t take back the flag in an hour if the rest of the time you treat patriotism as something vaguely embarrassing.” Maher’s closing commentary on Friday came as the country is ramping up for its annual Fourth of July celebration, with Trump vowing to go big this year for America’s 250th anniversary. Despite the festivities, many Democrats are refusing to participate in the fun, citing their unhappiness with Trump as the primary catalyst — a decision Maher blasted Friday night while taking jabs at both sides.DEMOCRATS PROJECT DOOM AND GLOOM, NOT CELEBRATION, WITH JULY 4 MESSAGES “I’m not saying Trump doesn’t want to muddy the distinction between himself and the country,” Maher said. “He sure as s— does.” “That’s what wannabe authoritarians do,” he continued. “They try to blur the line. Don’t be an accomplice.” The TV host condemned the liberal argument that the country should not be celebrated just because…

In 1937, the Curtiss SBC Helldiver entered service, but even at that point, the carrier-based two-seat scout/dive bomber was on the verge of being obsolete. Interestingly, it was also the second aircraft produced by Curtiss-Wright to earn the designation “Helldiver” after the United States Marine Corps’ version of the Curtiss Falcon, operated by the U.S. Navy as the F8C Falcon. Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver of Bombing Squadron Ten (VB-10), USS Intrepid (CV-11), flies over Tientsin, China, as the city is reoccupied by the Allies in September 1945. Image: U.S. Navy The name was recycled just six years later with the Curtiss SB2C Helldiver 2, a carrier-based dive bomber designed to supplement and replace the Douglas SBD Dauntless. To suggest it had a rocky start and a less-than-stellar service life would be a severe understatement. Still, it went on to be produced in large numbers and saw extensive service in the Pacific Theater. It initially earned a reputation for poor handling, structural flaws, and unreliability. Yet, it became the primary dive bomber in service at the end of the Second World War, with its success attributed as much to the skill and bravery of the pilots as to the aircraft. The landing officer…

With a flurry of new research projects, the Pentagon is exploring multiple ways of improving medical care for wounded military dogs. These efforts include better assessment of canine traumatic brain injury, protecting dogs against toxic chemicals, performing transfusions on bleeding dogs and even finding common medical treatments for both humans and dogs. The new initiatives also come amid reports of poor health conditions for dogs in military base kennels. The latest round of DoD Small Business Innovation Research solicitations included four canine health projects. Three came from the Defense Health Agency and the fourth from DARPA. The deadline for all of them is June 3. One DHA solicitation addresses widespread TBI among military dogs who perform tasks such as detecting explosives or guarding bases. “TBI in the MWD [military working dog] carries an extremely high mortality rate with a prehospital mortality of over 40% for severe TBI cases,” DHA said. “It is estimated that 25% to 40% of all MWD trauma cases are accompanied by TBI, but there is limited data concerning the short- and long-term effects of TBI on the performance and health of the MWD.” DHA wants to take advantage of previous research into TBI on “rodents, canines,…

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to intensify its attacks on Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has now been commanded to increase the strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon to deliver what Netanyahu has described as a “decisive blow” to the armed group. This order is problematic, as it came during the ongoing ceasefire between the Jewish state and the Lebanese government in Beirut. This ceasefire was agreed upon in mid-April after more than a month of fighting and was extended earlier in May. The escalation in obvious violation of the ceasefire could further complicate indirect talks between the United States and Iran. Tehran has already stated that the Israeli military must end its operation against Hezbollah in order for a ceasefire with Washington to be extended. US President Donald Trump previously said Israel should only take “surgical” military action in Lebanon. According to a report  by RT, in a video message on Monday, Netanyahu insisted that Israel is “at war with Hezbollah” and that the country’s authorities “are not taking our foot off the gas.” “On the contrary, I have instructed them [the IDF] to press the pedal even harder,” Netanyahu added.  Hezbollah is “attacking us with drones… but…

As U.S. kamikaze drones guided by Elon Musk’s Starlink network began to make visible gains in the war against Iran, senior SpaceX officials reached a conclusion: The Pentagon should be paying more for access to their satellite Wi-Fi network.Within weeks of the United States launching its bombing campaign, SpaceX executives met Pentagon officials and argued the military had been paying about $5,000 for connection per terminal while effectively using a higher tier of service worth closer to $25,000, according to two sources familiar with the matter and Pentagon documents reviewed by Reuters. The disagreement over Starlink’s use on LUCAS suicide drones — a cheap U.S. model comparable to Iran’s Shahed that can circle over a target area before diving to detonate on impact — is part of increasing tensions between SpaceX and the Pentagon over Starlink pricing in recent months, according to interviews with five people familiar with the matter and the documents. The Pentagon, which is seeking to help Iranian citizens bypass government-imposed communications blackouts, has also been at odds with SpaceX over pricing for a plan to provide the populace direct-to-cell connections with Starlink akin to 5G service, two of the sources said. The ongoing disputes, which have not…

The U.S. military conducted “self-defense” strikes in southern Iran, U.S. Central Command said on Monday, to prevent Iranian hostilities toward U.S. troops. The strikes targeted missile launch sites and Iranian boats that were in the process of laying mines, according to Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins, a U.S. Central Command spokesperson. “U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire,” Hawkins said. The ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran began on April 12, though it has been tested it several times in recent weeks as the U.S. has fired on Iranian-flagged oil tankers and launched retaliatory military strikes against Iran. The benefits of grapes could go beyond providing a healthy snack.According to a study published in the journal ACS Nutrition Science, regular grape consumption can change how the genes behave, giving the skin an added defense system against sun damage. The research, led by scientists at Western New England University, suggests that grapes could trigger changes in DNA.EATING A COMMON VITAMIN-C PACKED FRUIT MIGHT TOTALLY TRANSFORM SKIN, STUDY FINDSResearchers tracked a group of volunteers who first followed a restricted diet for two weeks to clear their systems, according to a press release. Then, for the next two weeks, they ate the equivalent of three daily servings of whole grapes, provided in a concentrated, freeze-dried powder form. The scientists took small skin samples before and after the grape diet, testing them both under normal conditions and after exposing them to low doses of ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun.At the start of the study, each volunteer had their own pattern of gene activity. However, these patterns shifted noticeably after they ate grapes, after they were exposed to UV light, and when the grape-eating was combined with UV exposure.SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE CAN POSE LIFE-CHANGING HEALTH BENEFITS, EXPERT…

A lawmaker whose Marine nephew took his own life in 2011 after being hazed by unit members in Afghanistan has introduced a new bill that initiates the process for making hazing a dedicated offense under military law. The Harry Lew and Danny Chen Military Justice Reform Act, introduced today by Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., is named for Chu’s nephew, Lance Cpl. Harry Lew, and Chen, a 19-year-old Army private who also died by suicide in 2011 after racial harassment and hazing. The bill would order the Joint Service Committee on Military Justice to conduct a report to Congress on a change to the Uniform Code of Military Justice on whether hazing should be a standalone crime. Currently, hazing offenses are charged under different articles of the UMCJ, such as Cruelty and Maltreatment (Article 93), intended to protect military subordinates from abuses of authority by their superiors; or Assault (Article 128). A statement from the family of Chen, released by Chu’s office, expresses a desire to “carry on his legacy” by fighting military hazing.“Our family does not want anyone to suffer the way Danny did,” the statement continues. “What was done to Danny and Lance Corporal Harry Lew was brutal and…

The Spanish government has confirmed a new hantavirus infection. Hantavirus Outbreak Kills 3 On A Cruise Ship Countries Are Rushing To Track Hantavirus According to a report by NBC News, the patient’s positive case was detected during periodic testing of contacts of people associated with the outbreak. While hantavirus is endemic in parts of South America, it still remains very rare among humans and has never before been recorded on a cruise ship. Global and U.S. health officials have consistently attempted to calm fears of a wider outbreak. A couple of Tampa police officers have resigned recently after being accused of catching the eye of the same 911 dispatcher or, as they officially refer to her as, the same emergency communications officer. An investigation into allegations that three officers engaged in sexual activity with an emergency communications officer while on duty concluded that Officers Nevin Morales and Ryan Fagan had violated several of the police department’s policies, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The law enforcement certifications for both officers were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for review in April, which reportedly could result in those certifications being revoked.
