This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog. No matter what happens now, the world is facing a very painful energy crisis. Let’s be as wildly optimistic as we possibly can and assume that Iran agrees to allow free passage through the Strait of Hormuz with absolutely no tolls or restrictions starting tomorrow. Before normal traffic through the Strait could resume, Iran would first have to remove all of the mines that they have laid in the Strait, and that could take months. Once all of the mines have been removed, it will take the tankers that are currently trapped in the Persian Gulf weeks to arrive at their destinations. Moving forward, Persian Gulf countries will be exporting much less oil and natural gas for the foreseeable future because of all the oil and natural gas infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed during the war. It will take years before all of that infrastructure is fully repaired and rebuilt. Meanwhile, global supplies of oil and natural gas will be very tight for an extended period of time. What I have just laid out for you is the best-case scenario. Ultimately, what we end up facing…

The USS Saratoga (CV-3) was one of just three United States Navy aircraft carriers — along with USS Ranger (CV-4) and USS Enterprise (CV-6) — to survive the entirety of the Second World War. Although outdated by 1943, as the newer and more capable Essex-class entered service, CV-3 was one of the American flattops that fought for time in the early stages of the conflict, and continued to find a role until victory was finally achieved. This 1928 photograph shows the starboard side of the USS Saratoga. Note the presence of the four twin 8-inch (203mm) guns. Image: U.S. Navy After the war ended, USS Saratoga was among the warships that helped return United States military personnel from distant posts in the Pacific, and met her end as a target for nuclear weapon tests during Operation Crossroads. An Important Name USS Saratoga is fittingly remembered for her role during the Second World War, yet she has historic ties to the founding of the nation. In addition, she was ordered as the United States sought to avoid entry into the First World War, and was originally authorized as a Lexington-class battlecruiser. The USS Saratoga was photographed here in 1928 while she was…

MoreNEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! The world now knows that, in a daring daylight strike on a clear Saturday in Tehran, the United States and the State of Israel opened what President Donald Trump, in his address to the nation, called “major combat operations” against the Islamic Republic of Iran.Operation Epic Fury is is the very sort of thing that was not supposed to happen under President Donald J. Trump: America appears to be pursuing an open-ended regime-change operation in the Middle East. Having committed the prestige of his presidency to this project, Trump must now see it through. We should be open to the possibility that it will be achieved swiftly. If it is not, then it becomes the dominating project of his second term — and, moreover, the defining one. There are significant differences between this regime-change project and the ones preceding it in Iraq and Afghanistan. First and foremost, there is no American occupation force in the offing. American aircraft will range across Iran at will; American soldiers will not.The president made it explicit in his address that he expects the people of Iran to overthrow their own regime, and there is reason to believe…
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! When missiles fly, we expect explosions. We expect smoke, sirens and satellite images. What we do not expect is silence. On February 28, 2026, as fighter jets and cruise missiles struck Iranian Revolutionary Guard command centers during Operation Roar of the Lion, a parallel assault reportedly unfolded in cyberspace. Official news sites and key media platforms went offline, government digital services and local apps failed across major cities, and security communications systems reportedly stopped functioning, plunging Iran into a near-total digital blackout.According to NetBlocks, a global internet monitoring organization that tracks connectivity disruptions, nationwide internet traffic in Iran plunged to just 4 percent of normal levels. That level of collapse suggests either a deliberate state-ordered shutdown or a large-scale cyberattack designed to paralyze critical infrastructure. Western intelligence sources later indicated the digital offensive aimed to disrupt IRGC command and control systems and limit coordination of counterattacks. For the United States and its allies, the episode offers a stark reminder that modern conflict now blends airstrikes with digital warfare in ways that can ripple far beyond the battlefield. In a matter of hours, modern conflict looked less like tanks and more like a blinking cursor.Sign up for my…

Iran has launched retaliatory strikes at United States air bases after joint attacks with Israel killed supreme leader ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The “martyr” was killed in the ongoing Israel-U.S. strikes, according to an official statement. The joint strikes, which Washington and West Jerusalem described as a “preemptive” operation, targeted the Iranian leadership. Military and nuclear-related facilities have also been struck. Trump said the attack was aimed at destroying Iran’s missile industry and navy, as well as forcing regime change in Tehran, according to a report by RT. “The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint attack by the criminal America and the Zionist regime,” the official statement said. Israel’s ruler, Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed that Khamenei’s compound was struck in a “powerful surprise attack” that killed him. Netanyahu also vowed that “thousands of targets” in the Iranian leadership would be killed in the coming days, and he called on Iranians to take to the streets and overthrow the government. “At the moment of the martyrdom, he was carrying out his assigned duties and was present at his workplace, when this cowardly attack occurred,” it added. The U.S. and Israel claimed that Khamenei had been hiding in…

If you have not heard of Smith Enterprise, Inc., it is one of the most respected names in the M14/M1A world. In addition to providing civilian customers with a wide range of popular products for the platform, the company has also played an important role in both developing and providing weapon systems for use by our troops. The “Crazy Horse” M21A5 was developed by Smith Enterprise for use by the U.S. Military. A custom M1A-based variant is shown here. As a little background, the Smith family’s ties to the firearms world go back more than a century. And today, due to its extensive knowledge and success at pushing the M14 design to its seeming limits (and beyond), Smith Enterprise was one of the few companies chosen by the U.S. Military to help breathe new life into the M14 platform. A Notable Need: The M21A5 Solution In the early 2000s, the U.S. Army needed a powerful rifle that could engage targets beyond the range of the current M16 rifles and carbines. The U.S. Army had thousands of 7.62 NATO M14 rifles in the armory that were in poor condition but still a viable option for use. Smith Enterprise’s founder, Ron Smith, was…

This is a developing story.Three U.S. service members have been killed in action during combat operations against Iran, U.S. Central Command officials announced Sunday. Five more have been listed as “seriously wounded.” Several other troops “sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty,” according to the CENTCOM release.A barrage of Iranian retaliatory strikes were launched at U.S. military installations across the Middle East on Saturday on the heels of a U.S. and Israeli air, land and sea bombardment across the Islamic Republic — a campaign dubbed Operation Epic Fury. Initial reports on Saturday indicated there were no U.S. casualties. Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the U.S. service member deaths have not yet been made available.“Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing,” the statement read.
