NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! “And all at once, summer collapsed into fall…” – Oscar WildeCongress certainly collapsed into fall this year. It lacked the usual mayhem of an imminent government shutdown for the first time in years. The government is usually only funded through September 30, the end of the federal fiscal year. Lawmakers solved that fiscal riddle early. So the beginning of fall in Congress is usually anything but enjoyable. Others are devouring cobbler, enjoying spiced pumpkin lattes and viewing leaves of amber. When a government shutdown looms, the infernality of summer continues to stew on Capitol Hill. Imagine simmering political temperatures mixed with boiling urban concrete and a soupçon of petrichor. That epitomizes the customary fall tension in the halls of Congress when lawmakers are on the precipice of a shutdown. But this year is different.TRUMP SIGNS GOVERNMENT FUNDING BILL, AVOIDING A SHUTDOWN AHEAD OF MIDTERMS No shutdown. That’s a good thing, considering last year’s 43-day shutdown odyssey which crawled from October 1 into mid November. Everything is funded through December 11. So at least members and journalists can enjoy some of those autumnal fall trappings and dash to the pumpkin patch. That’s because we don’t…

The Pentagon is launching a religious affairs office to address what Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth calls a loss of religious community within the military after an era of “political correctness.”Reporting directly to Hegseth, the Office of Religious Affairs, or ORA, is meant to offer service members “first-class religious support,” according to the defense secretary. Hegseth first announced the office during his State of the Force address on Wednesday at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, to junior officers and enlisted leaders.“Our department is, you might say, putting on the full armor of God because while we wage physical war, we all know the real battle is spiritual,” Hegseth said on Wednesday. “God is good. Evil is not. And America’s military must understand the difference.”Hegseth announced the new office alongside a slew of other initiatives, such as the Autonomous Warfare Command, but he said all would be incomplete without faith, which he described as the “most essential part of our republic.”Hegseth said that less than 5% of the joint force identifies as nonreligious, and the other 95% recognizes an “Almighty God.” The Pentagon has not released an official report of the religious makeup of the military since 2019, when the composition…

We’ll get to the point. Making white vinegar from scratch is not easy. Unlike fruit based vinegars like apple cider vinegar or wine vinegars, white vinegar starts with ethanol. In case you’re rusty on your science that’s alcohol: alcohol as in homemade vodka or moonshine. That’s as opposed to the wines and hard ciders of all of the other fruit based vinegars. And making homemade vodka or moonshine is just the first step. You then need to introduce some aceto bacteria (Acetobacter aceti) to the alcohol to convert it to acetic acid which is the foundation of white vinegar. This is actually the same process for making cider vinegar or any wine vinegar. You ferment the apple cider into applejack or hard cider and then add the bacteria to convert it into cider vinegar. The same applies to turning wine into wine vinegar. But that’s easy compared to some of the steps and missteps of making white vinegar. Want to save this post for later? Click Here to Pin It On Pinterest! A Double Fermentation Process Making white vinegar involves two fermentation steps. The first step ferments sugars to alcohol. The alcohol is a clear spirit (although cloudy before filtering)…

It is undeniable that the current landscape in college athletics is completely broken. There are seemingly no rules, there are no leaders, and the exorbitant amount of money being distributed is entirely unsustainable. The Protect College Sports Act, recently passed in the Senate, could — emphasis on the word could — establish some form of ground rules when it comes to name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals, athlete compensation, eligibility, and the transfer portal, which has turned into the Wild Wild West. While everyone can agree that a uniform framework across collegiate sports is long overdue, what that framework entails for athlete compensation is where government officials, athletic directors, coaches, and athletes themselves will never agree. CLICK HERE FOR MORE OUTKICK SPORTS COVERAGEArkansas basketball coach John Calipari certainly understands that, but it didn’t stop him from sharing that the majority of the players on his roster make more money than the assistant coaches on his staff.”I’m gonna say this; I probably shouldn’t. Nine of my players make more than my assistants,” Calipari shared on Wednesday after agreeing guardrails need to be put in place. “The other three make more than all my staff, and we are not one of the highest payers.””All…

The Navy announced Thursday that it will be renaming the command that handles current and future readiness for combat missions.Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle said in a C-NOte that the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command will henceforth be known as Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces, to more accurately indicate the capabilities of the command. “The name Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces better reflects the command’s core responsibility to man, train, equip, certify, and generate expeditionary Sailors and units for employment by operational commanders worldwide,” the message said. The command will continue to oversee explosive ordnance disposal, maritime expeditionary security, naval construction and expeditionary logistics forces.Daily operations for the command’s expeditionary units will also be unaffected. The name change reflects the command’s increased relevance as the service continues to invest in autonomous systems and their ability to be deployed from expeditionary locations, Caudle said. The command will continue to help the Navy expand its subsea warfare capabilities so that developing technology will soon be able to be deployed fleet-wide.Commander, Navy Expeditionary Forces will be leveraged to upgrade standards, training, certification, assessment and oversight in order to regularly provide security forces to installations, ports and ships, Caudle said.Riley Ceder is a Navy reporter at Military Times,…

LOS ANGELES — One of Hollywood’s top executives offered praise for President Donald Trump as he rallied behind a proposed federal tax credit aimed to bringing back American jobs in the entertainment industry.Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was asked Wednesday by Bloomberg News’ Lucas Shaw what his relationship with Trump is like as the two of them became more acquainted as the streaming giant pursued a buyout of Warner Bros. Over the past several years, countries like the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada have lured major Hollywood projects using tax credits, and the result was that it could become less expensive to shoot a production…

The Pentagon spent $2.85 million assembling tents at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that were never used to house detained noncitizens, according to the Government Accountability Office. The government watchdog found that the Defense Department reported obligating approximately $68 million for immigration detention from Oct. 1, 2024, through May 31, 2026. The Guantanamo operation was one of six new detention-expansion initiatives U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pursued without first developing a comprehensive strategic plan. By July 2026, ICE had scaled back four of the six initiatives, resulting in wasted or potentially wasted resources, the GAO said in a Sept. 24 report.A January 2025 presidential memorandum directed DHS and DOD to increase detention capacity at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to 30,000 beds. DOD assembled tents for an initial capacity of 5,000 beds, but the Department of Homeland Security determined they did not meet detention standards. The tents were taken down and never used to house detained noncitizens, in part because building facilities that met ICE standards was cost-prohibitive. DoD officials told the GAO, “detaining the planned population was deemed infeasible,” and the operation was downsized in mid-February 2025.DOD’s role in the detention expansion extended beyond Guantanamo. After DHS requested access to military installations in…
