NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! I don’t want to hear any more about motives. When someone engages in a mass shooting – or attempts to kill a president – they are by definition crazy. In the case of the Washington Hilton gunman, his motive is spelled out in his so-called manifesto: He hates President Donald Trump. Despite a background in engineering and teaching, he somehow became convinced that Trump was in cahoots with Jeffrey Epstein, calling the president a rapist and pedophile. HOW TRUMP SURVIVES: BATTLING THE MEDIA, FORMER ALLIES AND ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS But again, who cares about motive? Anyone who would storm an event protected by the Secret Service – knowing he could easily wind up dead – is not sane. We do this all the time, try to impose a rational framework on irrational attackers. The shooter was charged in court yesterday with attempted assassination of the president. COLE ALLEN CHARGED IN TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT IN FIRST COURT APPEARANCE AFTER WHCA DINNER SHOOTINGAnother thing we do regularly is blame an entire class of people for the actions of a single attacker. After the Secret Service captured the California gunman – who I’m not naming, under my usual policy of not providing the attention they…

Dallas Mavericks first overall pick Cooper Flagg was named the 2025-26 NBA Rookie of the Year, and it was a thrillingly close vote in the end.Flagg narrowly beat out Charlotte Hornets’ sharpshooter Kon Knueppel, his fellow Duke Blue Devils star who went three picks later than Flagg in last year’s draft, earning 56 first-place votes compared to Knueppel’s 44. So, Flagg finished with 412 total vote points to Knueppel’s 386.Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe finished in third place with 96 points (93 third-place votes), while San Antonio Spurs’ Dylan Harper and Memphis Grizzlies Cedric Coward also got third-place votes. Flagg marked the second-youngest player to ever win the award, as the 19-year-old was only behind Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James. For most of the season, it appeared Knueppel was going to win the award, but multiple voters came out publicly and said Knueppel’s Play-In Tournament struggles factored into them changing their minds for Flagg.MAVERICKS’ COOPER FLAGG ADMITS ROOKIE SEASON HAS BEEN ‘MENTALLY TAXING’ AMID THE TEAM’S STRUGGLESKnueppel had just six points on 2-of-12 shooting in 34 minutes during the Hornets’ electric 127-126 overtime win over the Miami Heat at the start of the…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel remained defiant Monday night, insisting his now-viral “expectant widow” joke about President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump was simply about their age. “This was Thursday, and there was no big reaction to it until this morning, when I greeted the day facing yet another Twitter vomit storm,” Kimmel said during his monologue. “I said, our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at her. So beautiful. This is from the glow. Like an expected widow, which obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they were together.””It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80, and she’s younger than I am. It was not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination — and they know that,” he continued. “I’ve been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular, but I understand that the First Lady had a stressful experience over the weekend, and probably every weekend is pretty stressful in that house.”DISNEY UNDER FIRE AS ABC GRAPPLES WITH ANOTHER JIMMY KIMMEL CONTROVERSY This…

The Los Angeles Angels have seemingly traded the rally monkey in for alley rats. Now, there is a new problem crawling into Anaheim: a rodent infestation at Angel Stadium.Health inspection reports that surfaced this week showed Section 432 at Angel Stadium was hit with a shutdown, and inspectors found the concession stands were not exactly running a tight ship.Turns out some uninvited, four-legged guests were making themselves at home. For once, the stench at the Big A is not just coming from the bullpen.Orange County Public Health Services did not find just one mouse sniffing around for scraps. Inspectors flagged rodent droppings in five different spots around the concession area, which is still more coverage than the Angels’ lineup usually provides.LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES PLAYER CALLS OUT SHOHEI OHTANI AS ‘NOT REALLY HUMBLE’ AFTER ENCOUNTER The exclusive report shared by the California Post also noted a ceiling hole larger than a quarter inch, which basically gave the critters a free pass to move between the rafters and the food stations like they had season tickets. On record, the concession stand was shut down on April 22, which was a homestand against Toronto, ending in a 7-3 win over the Blue Jays. While…

She cited cottage cheese and Greek yogurt as options that are lighter than sour cream but don’t sacrifice flavor — and they align with health trends of recent years. Baked sliders, a longtime party…

The Navy’s top civilian leader was listed on a passenger manifest list for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane, documents reportedly show.According to a flight manifest, Navy Secretary John Phelan traveled from London to New York City on March 3, 2006, on the disgraced financier’s private jet, CNN reported Friday.Epstein was awaiting trial for child sex-trafficking charges when he was found dead in his jail cell on Aug. 10, 2019, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City. His death was ruled a suicide by medical examiners.A close friend of Phelan’s confirmed to CNN he was on the flight but that it was the only instance Phelan interacted with Epstein and that Phelan, then working in the financial sector, was invited to fly by the late Bear Stearns CEO Jimmy Cayne. CNN did not identify the friend. The friend told CNN that Phelan did not know they would be flying in Epstein’s plane prior to their arrival and that Phelan never interacted or spoke with Epstein again. CNN further reported that there is no evidence Phelan was aware of any wrongdoing by Epstein or Epstein’s associates at the time of the flight.Phelan founded Rugger Management LLC, a private investment…

This article was originally published by Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr. at The Mises Institute.  Do illegal immigrants have the right to stay in America, or can they be deported? Of course, they do not have such a right. Furthermore, as Brion McClanahan of the Abbeville Institute has pointed out, the Supreme Court has in numerous cases ruled that control of immigration is a federal matter, not one under state jurisdiction. You can argue that these precedents are wrong,  but that is the law as it exists today. That being so, if “progressive” Governors like Tim Walz of Minnesota oppose the removal of illegal immigrants, they cannot block immigration enforcement within their state. They have no obligation to use state officials to help ICE agents, and if demonstrators against ICE attack agents or try by force to free those they take into ICE custody, state officials must arrest them. For some conservatives, that is the end of the matter: the demonstrators are a raging mob, who have only themselves to blame if some of them are injured or killed. Thus, writing in The Spectator, Dan McCarthy says, “The Border Patrol officer or officers who shot  [Alex]Pretti might have been wrong. But the…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! The new-look Detroit Lions have been a force to be reckoned with, but this season, they are in what has recently become unfamiliar territory. After making the playoffs in each of the previous two seasons, the Lions missed out on the playoffs after being one of the favorites to win it all in the preseason. In 2023, they were this close to making the Super Bowl for the first time. Last season, they lost in their first playoff game as the No. 1 seed.  “I really think we have all the pieces, and that’s why this year hurt the way that it did, because you know we have this high elite level of talent,” star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson told Fox News Digital on Radio Row. “I really just think it was a football thing, and it was a lack of complimentary football in critical moments. I think different phases were letting the team down. That’s defense included, too. It sucks that you have to sit there and say it, but I think that’s kind of what happened. Because we have the pieces.””I think we just slipped up here and there. Details kind of…

Look closely at the commemorative flight suit patch for Super Bowl LX and you’ll notice what appears to be an anomaly: while the military aircraft flyover on Sunday is set to include Air Force B-1 Lancer bombers and F-16C Eagle fighters alongside Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets and F-35C Lightning fighters, the patch includes silhouettes of another advanced fighter jet: the Air Force F-22 Raptor. According to a planner for the flyover, that’s not a mistake, but evidence of operational needs taking priority.Katie Spencer, the Sports Outreach Program manager for the Department of the Air Force, said the initial flyover plan included a pair of F-22s, to showcase the most advanced jets from both services.“We wanted 5th-generation aircraft from the Air Force and 5th-generation aircraft from the Navy,” Spencer told Military Times in a Friday interview. “But as things happen in our military, you know, operational tempo has increased, and so the F-22s got pulled for some operational assignments.”While Spencer did not go into details about operational needs, F-22s in June played a key role in Operation Midnight Hammer, the B-2 Spirit bomber-led strike campaign on Iranian nuclear facilities. In January and early February, an undisclosed variety of U.S. aircraft conducted…

Gambling addiction is now a topic that researchers can study under a Department of Defense program that provides federal funding for issues affecting U.S. military personnel and veterans. For the first time, the fiscal 2026 defense appropriations bill included problem gambling as a research topic sanctioned by the Defense Department under its Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program. Gambling addiction joins more than 240 subjects authorized by Congress to receive funding under the program. Last July, the National Council on Problem Gambling joined forces with gaming companies BetMGM, MGM Resorts and FanDuel to ask Senate appropriators to include funding for gambling research in the Pentagon’s fiscal 2026 budget bill. According to the 2022 Defense Department Health Related Behaviors Survey, 1.6% of active-duty service members reported a problem with gambling and 1.7% of reserve members screened positive for a gambling addiction. Despite this, however, there has been a dearth of research on the impact of gambling on the military community, according to the NCPG. Being listed among the allowable topics in the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program doesn’t guarantee that the subject will be studied. But it makes federal funding available and is a step in the right direction, according to NCPG…
