The U.S. Marine Corps and Navy are collaborating to boost the nation’s current inadequate amphibious fleet size, according to the top-ranked U.S. Marine Corps officer.Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Eric Smith said at the 2026 Sea-Air-Space Conference during a Tuesday keynote that the two services are working together with a “unified sense of purpose” to increase the size and availability of the U.S. amphibious fleet through three methods.“We’re in complete agreement that our current inventory of 31 amphibious ships is not sufficient to meet our new presence that our combatant commanders are requesting and requiring,” Smith said during his speech. As of April 2026, there are four amphibious ships deployed across North America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, according to Navy data. Currently, the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli is in the Arabian Sea in support of the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, while the USS Boxer has deployed to the Middle East from the Pacific. The Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group was sent to the Middle East in mid-March as reinforcements for the war in Iran.In 2025, amphibious ships’ readiness rate crucial to Marine missions dropped to 41% amid increased U.S. operations in Latin America and the Caribbean to fight drug…

The 1911 has now been with us for a century and a decade. Throughout that lifespan, there’s been no point at which it was not beloved by huge numbers of soldiers, law enforcement agents, and civilian shooters. Astonishingly, perhaps implausibly, the 1911 remains a darling of serious pistoleros: attend any defensive pistol course, and one will find it in the holsters of students and instructors alike. Was the grip safety on the 1911 inspired, or an anachronistic mistake? Image: Morgan Gregory The reason is not hard to ascertain. Most of the 1911’s design elements persist into the modern era due to indisputable merit. Its grip angle works for an overwhelming majority of users. The thumb button magazine release is right where we want it. I’d also be remiss not to mention that the 1911’s sliding trigger system continues to produce one of the crispest triggers possible. Of course, there’s another signature element of the 1911 we don’t tend to talk about quite as much: the grip safety. Even the newest derivations of the 1911 incorporate it, including Springfield Armory’s TRP and Prodigy lines of pistols. As originally designed, the 1911’s grip safety did not stand too proud of the frame and was…

Iran has allegedly fired upon three different ships in the Strait of Hormuz, not long after United States ruler Donald Trump announced an extension to the ceasefire. Trump Extends Ceasefire Citing A “Seriously Fractured Government” Iranian media said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was bringing two ships to Iran after seizing them in the Strait of Hormuz, according to The Associated Press. The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Center noted that a container ship was fired upon by an IRGC gunboat near Oman on Wednesday, causing “heavy damage to the bridge.” “No fires or environmental impact reported. All Crew reported safe,” the notice said. Another UKMTO warning said “an outbound cargo ship” west of Iran reported “having been fired upon and is now stopped in the water.” The notice said the crew was safe and accounted for. “There is no reported damage to the vessel,” it added. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) command claimed in an X post that the two vessels, the MSC-Francesca and Epaminodes, “had endangered maritime security by operating without the necessary permits and tampering with navigation systems.” It said the vessels “were seized by the IRGC Navy and escorted to Iran’s coast,”…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! California’s sanctuary policies are under renewed scrutiny after Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested nine previously convicted sex offenders in Los Angeles, accusing state officials of releasing thousands of criminal migrants instead of honoring federal detainer requests.ICE said Wednesday the nine individuals – all convicted of sex crimes – were taken into custody during a targeted operation aimed at removing dangerous offenders from local communities. All nine “will face justice for their crimes and will be removed from the United States, never to terrorize our communities again,” the agency said.Since Jan. 20, 2025, ICE said California has declined to honor 4,561 immigration detainers on criminal illegal immigrants, releasing offenders – including murderers and sex offenders – back into communities instead of transferring them to federal custody. The agency added that it currently has more than 33,000 active detainers lodged in California’s local, state and federal jails and urged officials to cooperate so dangerous offenders can be removed from the U.S.”ICE isn’t going to stand idly by while criminal illegal alien sex offenders roam Los Angeles or any other community,” ICE Director Todd M. The U.S. will soon have the ability to deploy a new type of hypersonic missile that can be shot from fighter planes, bombers, ground-based launchers — and can even be fired from space.Ursa Major, a Colorado-based defense manufacturer, debuted the HAVOC missile system on Tuesday. The medium-range hypersonic system is powered by a liquid rocket engine, is able to alter its speed in flight and can be adapted for use with a wide variety of rocket motor systems from warplanes to vertical launch systems.Additionally, the system can be deployed outside of Earth’s atmosphere, according to the company. “Keeping pace with our adversaries requires more than exquisite systems. It requires speed to delivery, affordability, and the ability to build at scale,” Chris Spagnoletti, CEO of Ursa Major, said in a statement. “The Ursa Major HAVOC Missile System delivers a highly capable hypersonic weapon designed from the start to be produced rapidly and in quantity, giving the warfighter a credible and adaptable capability.”The system has a core module that makes it suitable for striking hypersonic targets as well, the company adds. Hypersonic missiles, which fly at roughly five times the speed of sound, have become a priority across all U.S. military branches.…

President Donald Trump’s phone call to the United States men’s Olympic hockey team garnered controversy after laughter followed a mention of the women’s team. While on the phone with the team after they won gold, Trump said he would “have” to invite the women’s team, which also beat Canada to win the Olympics, to Tuesday’s State of the Union — otherwise, he “probably would be impeached.”The quip drummed up some laughter in the locker room, which Team USA backup goalie Jeremy Swayman seemed to regret.  “We should have reacted differently,” Swayman told reporters Wednesday when asked about the phone call.Members of the men’s team, including Jack and Quinn Hughes, made it a point to mention that the teams celebrated and supported each other throughout the Olympics. Swayman, too, hammered home the point.”We know that we are so excited for the women’s team. We have so much respect for the women’s team. To share that gold medal with them is something we’re forever grateful for,” he said. The women’s team declined an invitation to Washington, D.C., citing scheduling conflicts. The day began ominously. It was Friday the 13th when the airmen of the 451st Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force based in Castelluccio, Italy, gathered in an ancient wine cellar which housed Group Operations.“Gentlemen, our target today will be … Vienna,” Ed Ryan later recalled in Veteran Voices Magazine. Audible groans could be heard throughout the cellar. Experienced crewman knew how well defended the Austrian city was, laced with anti-aircraft guns. Ryan, who served as a navigator, knew too, as he had flown 12 missions prior to that October day. It would be his 13th bombing run — set on the 13th.“Friday, October 13, 1944: Friday the 13th. My lucky day,” Ryan wrote. “For the rest of my life, I would celebrate Friday the 13th whenever it appeared on the calendar. It was the day I should have died, but didn’t.”It was overcast as Ryan’s B-24 took off, positioned in at the rear of the squadron. The men morbidly called it the “Purple Heart” position, as it left whoever was flying in that spot the most vulnerable to flak.“I can’t say I was scared,” said Ryan. “I understood intellectually the odds of being shot down. But I never in…

Millions of people living in Somalia are struggling to find food as a severe hunger crisis grips the country. Six and a half million people are currently experiencing high levels of food insecurity, the United Nations’ (UN) World Food Program (WFP) reported on Tuesday. Officials from the UN and the Somali government have urged international humanitarian efforts in order to scale up life‑saving assistance to protect vulnerable communities. They warn that help is desperately needed before conditions deteriorate further. More than 1.8 million children under the age of five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2026, including nearly half a million children projected to be severely malnourished, according to a report by RT. “The drought emergency in Somalia has deepened alarmingly, with soaring water prices, limited food supplies, dying livestock, and very little humanitarian funding,” George Conway, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Somalia, said. He warned that urgent life‑saving assistance is essential, especially with no significant rain expected until the April‑to‑June season. The UNWPF stated that the worsening food scarcity situation is linked to prolonged drought and poor rains, with the October-December season cereal harvest in southern Somalia falling 83% below the 1995-2025 long-term average. In addition, livestock conception across…

The U.S. Department of Defense has not sufficiently tracked the cost of damages from extreme weather and natural disasters at military installations, hurting its ability to anticipate future disaster recovery needs, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report. Over the past decade, extreme weather and natural disasters have cost the department over $15 billion in damages at military installations, which can affect the ability to execute its mission and impede the installation’s resources that support service members and their families, the 61-page report released Monday says. At the request of Congress, the office conducted this report by investigating 12 installations that sustained “substantial damage” from a natural disaster from fiscal 2015 to fiscal 2024. The office conducted three in-person site visits, the report says. The natural disasters that affected the installations examined included earthquakes, wildfires, floods, typhoons and hurricanes, among others. The office examined the bases, reviewed their documentation and interviewed officials and found gaps in the department’s resilience planning despite previous improvements because of a lack of necessary data or adequate funding. The report says that the department follows policy that reflects the statutory requirement to include resilience in the ongoing and planned construction projects at installations, but existing guidance…

Maciej Torbé has returned to his Civivi stomping ground for a new fixed blade, the Scoopth. The Scoopth falls right in line with previous Civivi/Torbé collabs, which have always been fixed blade models with striking lines. What is a Scoopth? Perhaps only Torbé knows, but it’s certainly fun to say. And the term does seem to evoke an aspect of the knife, in that its wide blade features a compound grind with a big “scoop” on the forward, thinner half of the profile. And there’s another scoop on the spine, just aft of the jimping, lending the Scoopth the quirked up attitude that all Torbé’s work seems to possess. The classy wooden scale model With a cutting edge of 4.9 inches, the Scoopth easily qualifies as an outdoors user, with the beefiness to back it up. The Nitro-V steel used here delivers balanced metrics in terms of toughness and corrosion resistance, and isn’t going to be a bear when the need for a sharpening arises. Torbé’s handle design, while just as characterful as his blade shapes, hews a little closer to the accepted geometries; it’s easy to see sensible cuts and curves beneath the exaggerated styling. The scales are available…
