Army soldiers for generations have guided horse-drawn caissons through Arlington National Cemetery as they escort the country’s fallen to their final resting place. Now, as the service overhauls the animals’ care, soldiers who care for the horses have a career classification of their own. The Army recently established the 08H Army Equestrian military occupational specialty and Staff Sgt. Shawn Tabor and Sgt. Daimien Copeland, both assigned to the Caisson Detachment at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, are among the first soldiers to qualify for the new role after completing an 18-week horsemanship program.“When the 08H opportunity came around, there was no hesitation; I immediately jumped on it. There was no second thought or doubt about doing it,” said Tabor, who has served in the detachment for eight years as an infantryman.U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Shawn Tabor, assigned to the Caisson Detachment, Military Mounted Battalion, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), poses for a portrait at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Virginia, July 3, 2026. Through consistency and mental toughness, Michael Guzman, a Clermont, Florida, native, recently graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island after losing nearly 100 pounds.Pvt. Guzman had hoped to become a Marine since he was 5 years old, inspired by his uncle’s service. However, after graduating from high school, his weight reached nearly 270 pounds, making that dream feel out of reach. After praying for guidance, Guzman received a text message the following day from Staff Sgt. Luis Cervantes, a recruiter with Recruiting Substation Clermont, asking if he was interested in becoming a Marine.“I took that as a sign,” Guzman said in a release. “Ever since then, my life has been transformed.”Determined to earn the title of Marine, Guzman began running every morning, training in the evenings and eating healthier. He remained focused on his goal, even when it meant missing personal events. He said his family, especially his mother, kept him accountable, while discipline and consistency became the foundation of his training.Recruiting Substation Clermont also became an important source of motivation. Cervantes and the Marines there regularly checked on Guzman’s progress and adjusted his training.“It was constantly reminding him of his ‘why,’” Cervantes said. “Why did you want to become…

The internet is absolutely lousy with stories of bad gun store clerks. I’m sure you’ve heard the tropes before: the owner who’s too busy chatting with his buddies to make a sale, the counter commando who denigrates every brand but one, and the fella that wants to get $2,000 for a clapped-out, rusty surplus rifle (often one that’s hung on the wall for the better part of a decade) because “I know what I got.” Likely you have a story of your own! The author says you should always look for a deal, but don’t shortchange yourself. Instead, buy the right gun — like this Hellcat Pro — for your needs. In truth, the firearms industry has improved leaps and bounds in terms of the average retail experience. I find that most gun store clerks are exceedingly patient with customers, and very rarely do I feel a store is insular or unfriendly to new faces. This is all exceedingly good news for the promotion and exercise of the Second Amendment. Still, it can be an intimidating retail landscape out there, especially with the preponderance of companies, models, and calibers on offer. Having now spent quite a bit of time at…

Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell took a useless jog around the bases in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week.Talk about a brutal plot twist.Trammell belted what he thought was his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning of Monday’s eventual loss to Toronto. The lefty uncorked on a fastball to the deepest part of Daikin Park (should still be Minute Maid Park, but that’s neither here nor there), and thought he got all of it.He touched first, rounded second, hit third and then finished his trot by touching home, thanking God, and making the short, triumphant walk back to his dugout for a well-earned congratulations from the rest of the team. The only problem? When he finally looked up for the obligatory “atta boys!” from his teammates, they were nowhere to be found …… Because the ball was caught at the wall.Take a look:Taylor Trammell gets revengeOh no! Just a brutal look for Taylor Trammell. Humiliating. Devastating. I can’t even imagine what’s going through his head when he touches home and then realizes what he just did.How do you look your teammates in the eyes after that jog? Goodness. Better yet, how do…

Following the recent announcement that a Saildrone Voyager unmanned surface vehicle directly aided the U.S. Navy during a drug interdiction in the Caribbean that led to the seizure of more than $81 million worth of cocaine, the Navy has awarded the California-based company a $16.3 million task order to extend operations of the Voyager fleet in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, according to a recent release. The extension is in line with the Trump administration’s efforts to curb illicit narcotics flowing into the United States via alleged drug-carrying vessels in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean.Since 2023, Saildrone’s USVs have worked in coordination with the U.S. Navy, supporting the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S) and U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. Navy Fourth Fleet, per the release.“The continuity of Saildrone’s presence along the southern border for nearly three years demonstrates the strategic value we bring as the world’s most experienced operators of unmanned surface vehicles,” said Saildrone President VADM (ret.) John Mustin. “Our unmatched ability to remain on station and on mission in critical regions for months at a time is why our fleet serves as a powerful deterrent to bad actors. We look forward to continuing to partner with…
